Good Girls DO Initiate!

So I'm reading this article from Redbook on the 10 Things Your Man Really Wants in Bed (http://www.redbookmag.com/love-sex/advice/your-man-wants-in-bed). I don't know why I always read these things, but I do. I just always want to know more. I think at this point between all the articles I've read and the sexual health training through Pure Romance, there's not much of anything that I haven't heard of before. Well, I take that back, I've seen some things on the internet that frankly I didn't want to see. But those were WAY out there - even for me and I'm about as open-minded as one can get. Aside from that though, I always want to see if there's another nugget of info I can find to not only help my customers, but my own marriage as well.

So the first item is "Initiate Sex More." *sigh* That is one of my husband's biggest complaints - when the mood hits, I do the usual flirty girl things and if he doesn't pick up on the signals I just think, "Eh, oh well, never mind," and go about my business. It doesn't help that our arousal clocks seem to be set at different times, either, but of course he is more than willing to adjust to whatever time I'm willing! ("Wake me up for God's sake woman!") LOL!

Obviously this is an area I could use some help on. I get a lot of, "I bet you have sex AAALLL the time!" at my parties. Puhleez. Sure, I've got all the paraphernalia in the world at my disposal (you can visit pureromancebypam.net to get some..haha!), and believe you me that variety is NOT a problem for us, however I am also a mom who works two jobs and goes to school. I'm TIRED! Often sleep sounds more like a hot date than having sex, no matter how great it is! And here is the other thing, believe it or not, I am a little shy about initiating sex. I know, I know...but like most women, I have physical insecurities and it's kind of like when you need to get your driver's license picture and you put it off and put it off because you're waiting for a good hair day? (*crickets*) Okay, maybe it's just me. I know it doesn't make sense because he could care less if I'm feeling 'puffy', my hair is flat or anything else if I'm offering him some lovin'!

There's also the fact that women are traditionally not the ones who are initiating things. We grow up being told that 'good girls' don't pursue sex while men grow up trying to perfect their technique to get in our pants. So then we get into a serious relationship or get married and 'WHAM', suddenly we're supposed to turn into these wild vixens. Let me tell ya, I feel like a deer in the headlights sometimes - what do I do?! So I do what we women ARE brought up doing - I flirt. I give him looks (which he interprets as take out the trash or some such at this point), I unbutton my blouse a little ("Hey honey, Maia must've unbuttoned your shirt when you were holding her - you might want to fix that,") or cuddle up closer ("Sweetie, are you cold?") We spend too much time rebuffing their advances that they are confused at this point! My husband's theory is that the only thing lingerie is truly good for is a definite signal that they have the go ahead.

If you need help, like I do, here are some other ideas on how to initiate sex with your significant other. Some are a little more vague than others - my advice is to really go for it and do the more obvious tricks! See, you don't need to break out the whips and chains to blow his mind - just let him know you want him to blow yours! ;-)

Joy of Sex is Revised

I don’t know if it’s necessarily a good memory, but it’s certainly one of my first memories about my curiousity about sex - finding my parent’s ‘Joy of Sex’ book in their old school headboard. (You know the kind with the sliding doors?) Honestly, I was both mortified and fascinated. If I were to look at it now, I would probably still be mortified and fascinated with the 70’s version complete with excess hair everywhere and all of that old-fashioned vernacular.

MSN had a link this morning on their homepage that ‘Joy of Sex’ has finally been updated. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28589259/?GT1=43001 Thank goodness! While I doubt that there will be too many people pick up this book with the hairy man throughout while choosing from the infinite possiblities out there now, if they did, I would hate for them to get outdated information such as pushing the concepts of not wearing condoms and orgies (a truly dangerous combination!) The book has been a staple for a lot of people for a lot of years. I believe that’s because it’s been around as long as anyone can remember and it’s title let’s you know exactly what to expect. Some of the books we carry at Pure Romance have more amusing names, such as Tickle His Pickle, Tickle Her Fancy and Ride ‘em Cowgirl http://ww2.pureromance.com/PublicStore/catalog/Books,148.aspx, some really aren’t sure how to take that. However, I prefer these books by far because of the humor of the author’s writing and cartoon characters rather than real people. It’s more light-hearted to me and less ‘clinical’, plus my husband is much more likely to read it with me when it’s funny too. Sex, in my opinion, should always be fun and funny, not taken too seriously. However, books like Joy of Sex certainly have their place when they are providing good information that can both help inform it’s readers and shake things up in the bedroom with new ideas.

How do you host a sex toy party (and what do you get for being a host)?

Believe it or not, it’s right! (Although some hostesses seem to think ‘guests’ should be listed under ‘optional’ as well.) The only thing I might disagree with is “invite your adventurous and open-minded friends.” Hmm…so how do you know which of your friends is ‘adventurous’ in the bedroom or not? If they invited you over for a menage a trois, then yes, she definitely is a candidate for an invite. But what about that quiet girl at the office who dresses demurely and is so sweet she almost makes your teeth hurt? Invite her too! Ever hear of ‘lady on the street, tramp in the bed’? What do the people you know about your bedroom play? Exactly.

The comment about inviting more people to get more free products is exactly right. Rule of thumb is that half of the people you invite will actually be able to attend. So if you invite 20 people, you’ll likely get 8-12. So let’s say 10 people show up. On average, ladies spend about $70. So, let’s make it easy and say 10 show, that’s $700. That means you get $70 to spend on your personal wish list. Plus you get a free gift from me AND parties of $700 or more get entered in a drawing for a $500 VISA card from Pure Romance! I often run specials, as well, for more credits (like 20% hostess credits for a few special dates I have left) and always give away at least one toy at the party.

The comment I hear at every single party was, “It wasn’t what I expected. It was a lot of fun and not uncomfortable at all!” or something very similar. If you’ve never been to our parties, or you’ve been to another company’s party, you will likely be surprised at how easy and fun they are. Why I Love Pure Romance

I decided I wanted to be a Consultant for the same reason a lot of us do - I had been to a couple of parties, loved the products and when my sponsor talked about doing the parties whenever I had the time, it sounded like the perfect way to get a little wiggle room back into our budget. Now I’m definately not the type to stand in front of a group of people to do any sort of talk or presentation, and I had never ’sold’ anything before in my life. I’m the girl you see at a party clinging to her best friend or husband at a loss on how to start a conversation. I’m really not great with small talk. We had a new baby and a new house to accommodate our growing family so there was often more month than money.

Then I did my first party for my girlfriends at my house - who else better to laugh with when I couldn’t remember which product was licked and which you did NOT taste! They’d forgive me :) We had a great time and I made my first profit that night. I was hooked. Once I started the party, it was just so much more comfortable than I thought it would be. I simply used the cue cards to explain the products. I did that for a long time until I got comfortable doing the demo without them.

But the money is not why I love Pure Romance. I didn’t realize when I started how much it would change my life and how much we can help the women we come in contact with. She was disparately trying to work things out with this man, but couldn’t get the desire back for him that they both wished for. Obviously this is something they needed to talk to a professional about as well, but I was able to offer some suggestions to help them begin to work on their relationship. Another woman was new to parties and our products but was excited to try the couple she had chosen for her and her husband. She told me the next day that one of them didn’t work as they’d expected (common because it sometimes takes a little experimenting to find the right amounts of things that work for each individual - but the trying is part of the fun :)) but they’d had the most fun they’d had in a long time. They had talked and laughed and really enjoyed each other in a new way. Another woman came to me with the concern that she was unable to physically feel things the way she used to before she’d had treatments for cancer. She was a survivor who had never been comfortable addressing the sexual issues that she was experiencing with her doctor. This is common and the reason we have the Sensuality, Sexuality and Survival Program. I could talk a long time about experiences I’ve had since becoming a Consultant as could any of the other Consultants. Just like most of us got into Pure Romance for the money, to get time with other women, to get out of the house, or because they loved the products, all of us found much more waiting for us at our parties. Can you feel it through your screen?! If you could see how fast I’m typing this out, you’d have some idea of how energized I’m feeling! (Well, now that I’ve gotten some sleep because there was none going on while I was there!) I’m so full of ideas and knowledge to pass on to my downline and customers I can hardly stay focused. Pure Romance brought us some amazing speakers to learn from: Dan Thurman, Lisa Daily, Karen Phelps, Tonya Grimes, Brian Biro and Cindy Kubica! From the very first night there, we were pumped and bursting with energy from the guests and just being with our fellow Consultants again. Let me back up though, even before we got there, we were having a blast on the bus with the local girls! Seriously, when they started blasting music and telling us we’d be ‘dancing down the aisles’, I slumped so far down in my seat trying not to get picked I was almost under it! Don’t get me wrong, I love to dance and dance really well….after a couple of drinks! :) All you girls out there that say, “Oh, I’m too shy, I couldn’t do parties,” you can now see how shy I am! You’re not fooling me - quiet girls are the craziest! *wink*

Some of you may know I’m a small town girl too, from Dodge City, Kansas, and I’ve not been too many places (yet…PR is changing that!) So going to Cincinnati was a blast. We went to the Reds game and I had probably the best chili dog I’ve ever had in my life (Nathan’s - they put cocoa in it??? Chocolate in anything is a good thing to me!) We spent some time shopping and walking around downtown then one of the nights at the Cadillac Ranch. It’s been a LONG time since I went out dancing until 2:00 in the morning, then of course a food run afterwards :) 6 am to get ready for our next classes was rough! But the next morning we were listening to Brian Biro and you couldn’t help but get energized (and cry!) The best part was the ‘board breaking’ where we put whatever it was that holds us back from being the best we could be on one side of a board then all of the things we would be rewarded with if we just pushed past that on the other then broke it! I told my friends “I don’t cry…I WON’T cry!” I cried. LOL!

And the new products. I LOVE when we get new products! It’s like waiting for Christmas to see what they’ll come up with next. I’ve come home with things like ‘H.O.G’ (Hand Operated Girlfriend - it’s actually very pretty, ladies!), Purple Hooter, Tag Team, Microbullet, Buzz and more! Of course I had to buy an extra too…one for me, one for you, one for me…hehe. Product testing, c’mon! My husband is such a giver - it’s hard being a Pure Romance Consultant’s spouse
So here we go - I’m pumped and ready to go rock some parties and change some women’s lives by giving them the opportunity to experience what I’m feeling now! I’m feeling the WOO!

What do Pure Romance Consultants make and other questions.

I sometimes do games at my parties where everyone gets a chance to ask me questions about my job to win prizes. It’s a great chance for people who might be a little reserved about asking me privately to ask their questions in a more fun way and even get something for it. Plus there are always questions one person might ask that you didn’t think of. Here is some of the most common questions:

1. How often do you do parties?

It depends. I work full-time and have been going to college the last two years, not counting having 3 kids, so what is going on with those other things dictates how often I do parties. I believe in family first, so if I’m getting too busy to spend time with them, I cut back. I only booked two parties in July for that reason - I needed the break and family time. That’s the great thing about it, it’s your business so you run it as you want.

2. What does your husband/kids think?

My husband has always been supportive of whatever I wanted to do, so that wasn’t an issue for me. In fact, he’s an entrepreneur himself, so he is the one who inspired me to try having my own business. We listen to motivational tapes together and he helps clean my products after a party. Two of my kids are older, 16 and 12. We’re a very open family so they are fully aware of what I do, but it’s not ‘in their face’. They will help sometimes with things like putting labels on the back of catalogs. It’s actually helped our relationships a great deal! My 16 year old daughter talks openly with me about questions she has and doesn’t have some of the common, even dangerous, misconceptions about her body and sex that some of her friends do who are afraid to talk to their parents.

3. How much do you make?

Ah, this is the question everyone wants to know but are too polite to ask :) I don’t mind talking about it - I’m proud of the income I’ve been able to contribute to the family income! My commissions at this point are 40%, but that doesn’t count the things you learn to maximize profits, daily sales, free products, case sales and more. I probably make closer to 50% commissions buy buying smart. Below is a copy of what my retail sales are to date. So on average I make almost $1000/mo doing 4-6 parties a month, taking into consideration that some months it’s more and some months less, like when I took off in July. It’s hard to say what someone will make because the more you learn about the products, get comfortable doing parties and so forth, the more you can make. There are even regional differences in the average party sales depending on where you are in the state or country. Sometimes you’ll have a party where you make $50 that night and other times it is $400.

4. What kind of training and support do you get?

Whomever you sign up under is your sponsor, or mentor. That person gives you everything you need to get started then makes herself available to you as you progress to help you with any questions you may have. We have a lot of meeting and training opportunities as well. As you can see from my image above, there is a lot of information on the website and in 2009, there will even be online training, videos and more so you can take their Pure Romance University online, or in person. We have local meetings, weekly conference calls, regional market trainings, annual trainings…you get the idea :) I can’t think of any other business that you can get into so cheaply and with this much training. Plus we’re all a team - we help each other rather than competing with ideas, exchanging products if we need something, support and more.

5. I don’t think I could do that - talk in front of people about those products!

I don’t even know you and I can safely say, “Yes you can.” I have never had my own business and had never spoken in front of people (frankly, it scared me to death!) before doing Pure Romance. When I got my kit, I watched the video with our top consultants’ presentations, watched the sexual health DVD, read all the cue cards about the products (you get CUE cards!) and did my first party for some friends as practice. Don’t get me wrong, it took a few before I started feeling comfortable and I still get nervous sometimes, but all I have to do is show the ladies what the products are for and chat with them. Not hard at all - fun, in fact! You’re not coming up with anything on your own, just explaining what goes where and why. A lot of us just go through the book from front to back or use cue cards too. Plus your sponsor is happy to be there for your first party to make you feel more comfortable.
