Joy of Sex is Revised

I don’t know if it’s necessarily a good memory, but it’s certainly one of my first memories about my curiousity about sex - finding my parent’s ‘Joy of Sex’ book in their old school headboard. (You know the kind with the sliding doors?) Honestly, I was both mortified and fascinated. If I were to look at it now, I would probably still be mortified and fascinated with the 70’s version complete with excess hair everywhere and all of that old-fashioned vernacular.

MSN had a link this morning on their homepage that ‘Joy of Sex’ has finally been updated. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28589259/?GT1=43001 Thank goodness! While I doubt that there will be too many people pick up this book with the hairy man throughout while choosing from the infinite possiblities out there now, if they did, I would hate for them to get outdated information such as pushing the concepts of not wearing condoms and orgies (a truly dangerous combination!) The book has been a staple for a lot of people for a lot of years. I believe that’s because it’s been around as long as anyone can remember and it’s title let’s you know exactly what to expect. However, I prefer these books by far because of the humor of the author’s writing and cartoon characters rather than real people. It’s more light-hearted to me and less ‘clinical’, plus my husband is much more likely to read it with me when it’s funny too. Sex, in my opinion, should always be fun and funny, not taken too seriously. However, books like Joy of Sex certainly have their place when they are providing good information that can both help inform it’s readers and shake things up in the bedroom with new ideas.
