Not Pure Romance related, but I need to write.
I just read an article on WRAL about the testimony of a woman at a hearing regarding alleged pesticide violations by Ag-Mart. (http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3523590/) I realize that I am not nearly as aware as I should be of a large number of things going on in the world around me, but I try to learn as much as I can. However, I hadn’t heard about this situation and am deeply disturbed by this woman, and the other workers, story. Her child was born without arms and legs and “If the Pesticide Board finds that Oxley violated state and federal regulations by forcing workers into the fields too soon after spraying, he could be fined up to $100,000.” Seriously?! Okay, that’s a lot of money, but it still seems not nearly enough for careless disregard for human life. It breaks my heart into a 1000 pieces to read things like this. Maybe that’s why I’m so uninformed. Every time I read the news or hear it on TV it makes me incredibly sad and I feel so out of control of my children’s future. If there are people in this world who feel business or profit is more important than the people living on this earth, I feel like I need to apologize to the next generation for the lessons we’re teaching them.
